Converting Older Chromebooks Into Useful Devices - Replay
This webinar provided a unique opportunity to meet with leading Silicon Valley Entrepreneur Eran Sandler. In this open discussion forum, AFTRR members spoke with Eran on how to convert older, expired Chromebooks and make them workable, useful machines again using GalliumOS, a modern, secure operating system that receives security updates.
Eran also shared his personal experience and expertise around installing a variety of free tools including Ubuntu Linux, Gallium OS, and Libre Office on older Chromebooks that supports his own efforts to close the technology gap in his own community.

In June and September 2021 combined, there are 25 models of Chromebooks from Acer, Lenovo, Samsung and Toshiba that will expire and not be eligible for any updates. Chromebooks are inexpensive and easily available as they are used widely throughout school districts in the US. A lightweight operating system can make the most of these ‘expired’ computers (including the ability to use Zoom).
